Movement artists may apply to use the MACS facilities for a range of residencies, including: for the creation of new works; for the development of original work already in-progress; for research and development to enrich and inform professional practice; for rehearsals; and for other purposes consistent with MACS’ mission.

Funds to support project development and production through consultation with specialists are available to artists. Applicants should indicate in their proposal whether they are applying for project development and production support in conjunction with their residency, or as a stand-alone proposal.

“MACS is the essential bridge for local embodied artists to cross into the national sphere - providing an infrastructural entry point for artists to embrace wider visibility, stimulating developmental touring/exporting resources and invaluable support for limitless creativity.”

Facilities & Capabilities

MACS fosters dance and a range of movement arts, including those that require rigging and high ceilings. Facilities’ include professional dance studio amenities (sprung floor, Marley, audio, lighting, etc.), suitable for research, rehearsal, and videography. MACS is not a performance space, but can accommodate small, informal and in-process presentations. MACS does not depend on revenue from recreational classes, making its facilities are available to professional artists full time.

Residencies & Rentals

Residency durations range from two weeks to ten months, with most extending for the equivalent of one month. Successful applicants pay a negotiated user fee to work in the MACS facility. MACS can accommodate multiple, concurrent residencies.

Applications will be reviewed by ad hoc committees forming Review Panels drawn from: members of the Advisory Circle; prior MACS residency recipients; and others who have experience in creating, performing, funding, producing and/or presenting movement arts.

Professional Development

MACS supports the development of artists and their organizations by supporting practice, training, rehearsal, short-term “intensives” and workshops, demonstrations, lectures and more.
