Professional movement artists lack appropriate space and support.

MACS serves mid-career and emerging professional artists with well-equipped, accessible studio facilities for movement arts, as well as with professional development support to research, incubate and disseminate new works. Through its programming, MACS seeks to advance artists, retain talent, and cultivate a sustainable movement ecosystem in the Boston area.

Our Programs

“As artists continue to lose artistic spaces in the city of Boston, access to centers like MACS that are designed with the artist in mind have become an ever pressing need.”

Boston audiences want more and diverse movement arts.

Boston hosts many vibrant touring companies for dance and circus arts that preponderantly originate from other cities, thus under-representing the creative work of Boston-area artists. MACS’ commitment to underwrite creativity and risk-taking will help Boston match peer cities in promoting and disseminating a thriving culture and business in movement arts.

Our Commitment

“The artistic support programming that MACS proposes will build upon existing efforts within the community and will help provide the infusion that this community needs in order to keep artists from moving away and taking their work with them.”

— Jessie Jeanne Stinnett, Founder and Co-Director, Boston Dance Theater
